Chevrolet introduced its Blazer EV.R NASCAR Prototype earlier this year for the Daytona 500 that happened on the 16th of February, 2025. This cutting-edge vehicle is a testament to Chevrolet’s commitment to testing and applying new technologies that will benefit both production models and racing programs.

According to Eric Warren, General Motors‘ Executive Director of Global Motorsports Competition, Chevrolet remains dedicated to its V8 engine in NASCAR but also focuses on improving power, performance, and durability. The EV advancement aims to bridge the gaps between racetrack innovation and consumer vehicles, especially when Chevrolet is on its way to expanding its EV lineup.

The Blazer EV.R delivers over 1,300 horsepower from three electric motors that reach up to 15,000 RPM instantly. The motors draw electricity from a 78-kWh liquid-cooled battery stored under the NASCAR’s Next Generation chassis, which features a programmable all-wheel-drive system that’s paired with Goodyear Racing Eagle tires.

The EV.R design draws inspiration from the production Blazer EV SS, which features sleek aerodynamic styling and a lower and wider profile. Phil Zak, Chevrolet’s executive director of global design, emphasized how the project allowed the team to bring forward design elements from the Blazer EV SS while focusing on performance.

Chevrolet keeps the mission of expanding beyond the tracks, so they had a production model Chevrolet Blazer EV SS, which features 615 horsepower and 650 lb ft of torque. It’s the quickest SS model Chevrolet has ever produced, as it goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. It also features Brembo brakes, a spot-tuned chassis, standard Super Cruise driver assistant technology, and a 17-inch diagonal info screen.

The 2025 Blazer EV SS is not only the quickest SS model, it also paced the 67th Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. Additionally, the Corvette Stingray and Chevrolet Silverado RST paced the XFINITY Series and Craftsman Truck Series races. General Motors continues to lead towards an electric future, the Blazer EV representing a thrilling blend of motorsports innovation and real-world application.
