Maserati is working on a new super GT that has a V6 engine and a manual gearbox coupled to it. It’s set to be limited and expected to be launched early next year, becoming the most exclusive and powerful combustion engine in the Maserati lineup since the MC22 was produced. It’s based on the Grand Turismo, sharing looks from the Alfa Romeo.

In reference to the collaboration, Ficili highlighted that the previous collaboration they had provided infinite possibilities in customizing products for both their customers and various models sharing different components and commodities. For example, the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione was based on the former Maserati Maserati Grand Turismo and was built at Maserati’s plant in Modena; later, the 4C sport coupe was out of production during the collab.

“We have infinite possibilities to customize products for our customers, for the entire range of Maserati. I’m imagining doing something like we did in the past, also considering Alfa Romeo.” Santo Ficili told Autocar earlier during the Good wood Festival of Speed.

The basis of the new 33-strandale supercar shares the same monocoque chassis and a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder V engine as the rebadged MCpura (mid-engine MC20).

“We built the 4C and 8C in Modena, so why not?” said Ficili of the prospect of another limited-run supercar tie-up. “We can imagine a ‘few-off’ Maserati. It’s easy, because you can look at the past of these two brands, and you can find a nice car like the 33 Stradale, and we can invent something like this.” Santo Ficili said.

The aim of this collaboration is to celebrate Maserati’s racing heritage and Italian craftsmanship as the brand plans to return production of the Grand Turismo to its Modena factory.

Maserati and Alfa Romeo’s CEO Santo Ficili hinted that the upcoming Maserati model could debut in 2026, marking the brands 100th anniversary. Davide Danesin, Engineering Chief, emphasized the firm’s commitment to building a lightweight analog sports car that doesn’t have any hybrid tech and suggested the manual transmission to be a strong possibility.
