Overview

The 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II is a testament to German engineering, representing the pinnacle of performance and design in its era. This iconic sports sedan was a product of collaboration between Mercedes-Benz, Cosworth Engineering, and AMG, forged in the crucible of motorsport to deliver an exhilarating driving experience.

Exterior

The exterior of the Evolution II is distinguished by its larger fender flares, a pronounced front splitter, a rear window spoiler, and an adjustable rear wing, giving it an aggressive stance that commands attention. It rides on factory 17” alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero Nero all-season tires, completing its race-ready appearance.

Engine and Performance

Under the hood lies an AMG PowerPack-upgraded engine, a high-revving 2.5-liter unit producing 195 hp as standard, prepared for further tuning with racing applications in mind. The suspension and brakes were modified for track performance, and it featured a five-speed “dogleg” transmission for spirited driving.

Entertainment and Infotainment System

For its time, the Evolution II was ahead of the curve with a Technics stereo CD player and a Bosch Cartel car phone system, providing both high-quality audio entertainment and connectivity on the go.

Pricing

For the 190E 2.5-16 Evo II can be quite eye-watering. The MRLP (Manufacturer’s Recommended List Price) for this model was $88,699. However, due to its limited production and iconic status, finding one today can be a challenge. If you’re lucky enough to come across an Evo II, be prepared for an unobtanium pricetag.

Driver Assistance Features

The Evolution II’s sports suspension offered highly precise handling adjustable to three different heights. Sports seats provided firm support for both driver and front passenger, while rear passengers enjoyed contoured individual seats. A quick steering rack and self-levelling rear axle ensured optimal control during dynamic driving.
