The Volkswagen Group Africa (VWGA) is recalling 291 VW Amarok vehicles in South Africa, which were sold between 2 June 2026 and 15 September 2026.
In a notice posted on October 5, 2026, the South African National Consumer Commission (NCC) stated that the vehicles were produced during a limited production period and were equipped with a faulty curtain airbag that may not fully deploy during a front or side impact.
According to the NCC, the failure of the airbag to fully deploy may be caused by a component in the vehicle interior that comes into contact with the airbag. The issue causes a safety hazard to the driver and passenger, as sharp-edged parts of the guided elements could separate and injure the passenger in the front on the head or neck, resulting in an increased risk of injury in the event of an accident.
The affected Volkswagen Amarok owners are urged to take their vehicles to their nearest approved Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles dealers for assessment and replacement of the affected components.
All the work will be done free of charge, and those who feel that their vehicle may be included in the recall can reach out to the South African NCC through email at [email protected] or on social media through the X handle @TheNCC_RSA.
