Converting a classic Land Rover which has a combustion engine to a modern-looking With electric powertrains, it involves a complex process. But it didn’t get so much harder for the Landrovers, where they rebuilt the Panterra Lion, which is based on the existing Defender 110 chassis.

They began by stripping down the vehicle, and every component was recalibrated for the electric powertrain to fit in. They went on replacing the engine and modified the cooling system. Also, they updated the drivetrain, installed advanced software, and added regenerative braking, which allows energy to be restored during deceleration.

Coming on performance, unlike most electric vehicles, which focused on using a single electric motor, they gave the Panterra Electric Defender four in-wheel electric motors, which meant that each wheel received an individual motor, allowing them to operate independently, offering even torque distribution depending on the nature of the ride.(crawling on rocks, navigating through snow, or cruising along the coastline.

Also a brand new and modern suspension is added, and the vehicle features a number of driver assistance technologies, like the torque vectoring, which is actively involved in the distribution of power between wheels; hill descent control, which controls braking automatically on steep downhill slopes; and hill hold assist, which prevents rollback when starting on an incline.

Safety, stability, and brake technology include the EPB (Electronic Parking Brake), ABS (Antilock Braking System), ESP or ESC (Electronic Stability Program), and traction control.

According to the Landrovers, in-wheel motors were better option because they offered more space than a traditional powertrain, giving enough room for the battery pack, passengers, and cargo. The Panterra uses a 200 kWh battery capacity, giving it a range of up to 375 miles (600 km). The quad motors and the regenerative brakes provide a total of 600 horsepower and 4720 ft lb (6400 Nm) of peak torque.

From 0 to 60 mph, it uses 6.0 seconds, and the charging can support fast charging of 150 kW for both the AC and the DC. allowing customers to charge at home, which is the most efficient setup and can take overnight to deliver a full charge. It is also compatible with public charging, including fast chargers; this helps it top up to 80 percent in under an hour.

Stepping into the interior, a state-of-the-art digital instrumental cluster and touchscreen infotainment system welcome you, housed in a beautifully engineered in-house dashboard. They are equipped with features like satellite navigation and over-the-air software updates and provide detailed information about the vehicle.

The air conditioning control knob is placed below the infotainment system with a number of other knobs too, while the air conditioning vents sit on top of the infotainment system. The center console features a woodwork accent, and a storage bin is seen just behind the gear shifters; opposite to it, they fitted two cupholders made with plastic. On the floor are the same woodworks found in the center console, and the seats are fitted with leather upholstery. For inquiries on pricing Visit The Landrovers website here.
