When Sports Car Meets SUV

Advertisements

In a surprising twist, the 2023 Aston Martin DBX 707 emerges as more than just a pretty face. With a design language borrowed from sports cars and wrapped in an SUV shape, this powerhouse is turning heads. Car And Driver put it to the test, and the results are exhilarating: 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.1 seconds.

Under the Hood

The standard DBX packs a punch with 542 horsepower from its AMG-supplied twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8. But the new DBX 707 takes things up a notch, boasting a staggering 697 horsepower (or 707 PS in the more flattering European measure). It’s not just about raw power; it’s about finesse.

Design That Commands Attention

The DBX 707’s design screams sports car meets SUV. The front grille, now 27 percent larger, allows greater airflow for engine cooling. Carbon-fiber accents, including the front splitter, rocker panel skirts, and air deflectors, enhance aerodynamics. The rear features an extended diffuser and a longer spoiler. Mirror caps and side strakes, available in carbon fiber or black, harmonize with the window surrounds, hood vents, and roof rails. It’s a symphony of performance.

Unleashing the Beast

The 4.0-liter V-8 engine remains at the heart of the DBX 707, but it’s been massaged for more oomph. New turbochargers, redesigned induction, and exhaust systems elevate the power game. The standard nine-speed automatic transmission bows out, replaced by an AMG-sourced version with a wet clutch pack. And don’t forget the Race Start launch-control function—strap in and hold on tight.

Tech and Comfort

Inside, a 10.3-inch infotainment display takes center stage. While lacking a touch screen, it’s controlled by a familiar Mercedes-Benz rotary controller and touchpad. Luxury meets functionality.

The Price of Power

Starting at $239,086, the DBX 707 commands a premium over its standard sibling. But for those who crave performance, it’s worth every extra dollar.
