Toyota GR Supra Confirmed for 2026: Set to Compete in Australia’s Supercars Championship

Toyota GR Supra now arrives with a V8 engine. It is confirmed by the Japanese automaker, and it will be racing at Australia’s Repco Supercars championship in 2026.

This Supra Sport Coupe is fitted with a 5.0 Liter natural aspirated 2UR-GSE V8 engine that also powers the Lexus LC500, RC F, IS500 F-Sport Performance, and the GSF. Also, the engine is found under the hood of the Hilux truck, which made a performance win at the Dakar rally in 2019, Nasser Al-Attiyah being its controller. Previously, the Toyota GR Supra used the 2JZ inline six engine.

Shown in a clay model by Toyota, the race car has a sizable rear wing hanging on the rear decklid, and the exhaust pipes in chrome appearance come out from the sides underneath the doors. The front splitter with a large air intake is in the front bumper, and a portion cutout on the hood might be the cover of the V8 engine.

Toyota’s idea of competing in supercars began back 20 years ago. Now choosing the right car, team, and better partnership with the Repco Supercars Championship is definitely the time, according to Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia’s vice president sales, marketing, and franchise operations.

According to Toyota, it will enter at least four GR Supras in the Series. The design and development of the race car will be done by Toyota Australia with Walkinshaw Andretti United (WAU) as a homologation team partner, and they are set to run two Supras in 2026.
