Polestar kicked in the market back in 2020, targeting those who are seeking a performance vehicle and a lower price. At that time it released a 619-horsepower coupe with its starting price at $100,000 and above.
The model got discontinued in 2021, leaving Polestar without a proper halo vehicle. The vehicle was limited in production, and it ran with about 1,500 units. Now that is over, and Polestar is pulling back again with a new 2026 Polestar 5.

The new Polestar 5 will be the company’s flagship model and will be based on the 2020 Polestar 1, and unlike it, which was out as a coupe version, the Polestar 5 is a sleek four-door sedan.

The interior receives a grand touring level of comfort, and the battery is located underneath the floor of the car, which has a cutout that begins behind the front seats, which causes the back seats to sit so low to provide more headroom. Another thing is that the new 5 is designed primarily as a four-seater sedan, but when the rear seat’s center armrest is lifted, it can provide space for the fifth person.

Power and its performance: The 2026 Polestar will only have two trims: one, a dual-motor trim, and the other, a performance trim. Both of them feature two motors and all-wheel drive. The difference between them is the difference between their power output.
The standard Dual Motor trim features 738 horsepower and 599 pound-feet of torque generated specifically from its rear motors, which produce 603 horsepower. The performance trim, which is the top variant, makes a combined 872 horsepower and 749 pound-feet of torque.

The new Polestar’s official announced 0 to 60 mph for the standard Dual Motor is rated at 3.8 seconds, while the performance model uses a lower time of 3.1 seconds. The top limited speed for these two is 155 mph.
Underneath the 5s floor, a 106 kWh usable NMC lithium-ion battery is featured, working double duty to power and structure the aluminum platform. This system runs on 800 volts, and a DC charger can be used with a speed of up to 350 kW. Polestar states that from 10 to 80 percent needs only 22 minutes.

2026 Polestar 5 will be available in 24 markets that it competes in, and the United States won’t be among them. Pricing for the US market is expected to be released at a later date, while in Germany pricing for the two models will be at about $140,000 to $168,000.
