Ford recalls more than 312,000 U.S. vehicles because of a potential loss of power brake assist while driving, which could lead to a longer stopping distance, increasing the risk of a crash.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report, the recall has affected certain 2025 Lincoln Navigator, F-150, Expedition, Bronco, and Ranger vehicles.
The agency said that loss of power-brake assist could extend the vehicle’s stopping distance and increase the crash risk. This occurs when the electronic brake booster module malfunctions and shifts to a faulted state while driving. When it happens, the driver may lose brake boost till the vehicle is turned off, leading to the system reset.
The driver may notice several warnings, including anti-lock brake system, brake warning lights, and electronic stability control light, which will show up. The brake pedal will provide a different feeling when applying force. A dashboard alert message will appear, warning of a potential problem, and an audible alert will sound. The brake booster motor may be subjected to a voltage disturbance, causing a current surge, shutting down the system.
The recall includes 2025 model year vehicles like the Ford F-150: 217,969 vehicles that were produced between May 8, 2024, and June 9, 2025; the Ford Bronco: 39,913 vehicles produced between May 31, 2024, and June 17, 2025; the Ford Expedition: 26,582 vehicles produced between Aug. 8, 2023, and June 9, 2025; the Ford Ranger: 20,552 vehicles produced between Feb. 5, 2024, and June 20, 2025; and the Lincoln Navigator: 7,104 vehicles produced between Nov. 9, 2023, and June 9, 2025.
To fix the problem, Ford says it will update the brake booster software, which will be offered free of charge through an over-the-air update from the start of this August. Owners are advised to take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealership near them for repair.
Also, a notification message is expected to be mailed starting on 25 August, and Ford says it’s aware that about 37 warranty claims were submitted that were connected to the issue. Vehicle owners can also check if their car or truck is affected by calling a Ford or Lincoln service line at 1-866-436-7332, visiting the Ford or Lincoln dealership, or visiting the NHTSA website.
