Toyota is currently adjusting its assembly plant in Georgetown, Kentucky, to expand their production and give room for upcoming electric SUVs. The company has kept things under wraps regarding details on what vehicle models will be built there, but it confirmed to Car and Driver that they will be three-row EV SUVs.
According to the company’s released statement, Toyota is strategically transitioning production across their plants in Kentucky and Indiana so as to improve manufacturing efficiencies and better serve customers based on market demand.
The Indiana plant has been adjusted too, aiming towards expanding production of the Grand Highlander. Toyota didn’t go much on details on the forthcoming EV SUVs, but Reuters had published a report that suggested that the EVs will be based on the Land Cruiser and Toyota RAV4.
The reports from Reuters are based on an anonymous person who is familiar with the matter and who went on speaking under conditions because they were not in any authoritative position to speak publicly.
Earlier on, images of the Land Cruiser Concept surfaced through media outlets, which previewed a production version. While the RAV4 could be the gap filler between the recently revealed CH-R EV and an electric pickup truck that is seen in the image above, which Toyota showed earlier in the year.
The production of the ES sedan in the Kentucky plant will be cut off and will be moved to Japan, where the next-generation ES will be manufactured, as the company announced back in 2021.
