Ford Motor Company has issued a separate recall for over 1.7 million of its vehicles in the United States, with a defect on the rearview camera that may prevent the images from displaying and a second recall involving the infotainment display, which could show flipped or inverted images.
Affected by the recall are 2021 to 2026 Ford Broncos, about 528,168, and 2021 to 2024 Ford Edges, about 321,142; they have issues with the Accessory Protocol Interference Module (APIM). On the different recalls of certain 2020 to 2022 Ford Escapes, about 516,780 and 2020 to 2022 Lincoln Corsairs, about 110,696 of them were recalled with issues in their center display .
According to NHTSA, the recall covers certain Ford Bronco and Ford Edge models that are equipped with a defective Accessory Protocol Interference Module (APIM) that could overheat and reach a temperature as high as 105°C, which could initiate a temporary thermal shutdown to protect its electronic components.
During the thermal shutdown some certain models, like the Ford Edge vehicle’s center touchscreen features like rearview camera functionality, will remain unavailable for almost 5 minutes until the APIM cools. At this time drivers won’t get any images of what’s behind the car, increasing the risk of a crash.
On the second recall, which covers the Escape, Explorer, Aviator, and Corsair, states that the vehicles are equipped with a potentially faulty center display, which could flip or invert images immediately after the ignition cycle. This means that buttons will either be inverted or flipped, camera guidelines, and the rear-view image when reverse gear is initiated.
On November 13, 2025, Ford’s critical Consern Review group became aware of the issues, including the Accessory Protocol Interference Module’s temporary thermal shutdown on certain Ford Edge vehicles. While the second recall of the inverted or flipped display on the infotainment screen, they received the report of it becoming aware of the problem earlier on, in September 2025.
Ford will be fixing all these problems with a new software update that isn’t available yet, and when it becomes available, Ford Motor Company will notify affected owners via mail starting March 30th, 2026, and it is expected to run till April 3rd, 2026. They will provide all necessary information on how to update or take their vehicles to their closest dealership.
