  • The GTD Competition Clocks a blistering 6:40.835 at the Nürburgring, beating the Corvette ZR1X by over eight seconds.
  • Powered by a supercharged 5.2L V8 exceeding 815 horsepower, paired with aggressive aero tweaks, lighter suspension, and grippier tires.
  • A limited-production model is on the horizon, with the North American application window reopening soon for buyers.

The super American new car, the Ford Mustang GTD Competition, has performed incredibly at Nürburgring Nordschleife with a lap time of 6:40.835, which makes it the second fastest American car after the Ford GT Mk IV.

The pre-production competition did not only beat the previous GTD’s time by 11 seconds, and that was not all; it went and beat the Chevy Corvette ZR1X’s time by almost 8-plus points. The competition is GTD’s enhanced spec and has more aerodynamic add-ons, now configured with more power, reduced weight, and equipped with more grippy tires.

At the beginning of this month Ford announced that the 800-plus-horsepower Ford GT Mk IV became the fastest American car to circle the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The second place belonged to the Corvette ZR1X, which circled the 12.9-mile Green Hell using 6:49.275, which is less than the current GTD Competition time. The time was crushed by the new GTD competition time of 6:40.835, just behind the GT Mk IV, which used 6:15.977.

The GTD competition happened to beat the previous record by about 11 seconds. Probably between the time the previous record was made and now, Ford was busy working hard to bring this Mustang GTD spec to life. Pro driver Dirk Müller led the previous lap, scoring a 6:52.072 run.

The competition is an extreme version of the extreme Mustang GTD ever to get a factory warranty. Although it was designated as part of Ford’s prototype or pre-production model that’s the same as the Corvette ZR1X, now it joins the list of other production-eligible cars such as the last GTD, the Porsche 991 GT2 RS, and the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series.

Ford shared some information about the GTD Competition, as it will come with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 with new hardware that helps the engine to exceed the standard GTD with an 815-horsepower rating. The other thing is that its ratio of power to weight has been improved by installing new and lighter suspension dampers, new racing seats, and a magnesium wheel included.

They did some tweaks on the aerodynamics, which are now enhanced, and you can notice some dive planes, a pair of carbon fiber aero disks on the rear wheels, and they did some modifications on the rear wing, not forgetting it gets a set of gripper TBD tires.
